H. Court Young PhotoWelcome!

I am H. Court Young, author, publisher and geologist. My mission is to promote awareness through the written word. My books, eBooks, articles and blogs are written to educate, inform and raise your level of awareness about timely issues in today's world.

Articles, Blogs, Books and eBooks

As you are aware, terrorism, water and energy are frequent topics on TV and radio news and in the newspaper. These are critical issues in America and the world today.

Having worked in both water and energy for the last 20 years, I have watched as the world population has increased while these resources diminish.  The current rise in the price of oil is an excellent example. My World Collapse or New Eden, Your World in 2011 ebook gives some insight into the next few years.

As a geologist, I have always been fascinated with mountains and mining. I spent much of my life in the Colorado Rocky mountains and always have been intrigued with mining history.

Writing and Publishing

As an author and publisher, I enjoy hearing and reading the stories of others. We are all unique, with different perspectives on life and our world. We learn about ourselves by reading about and understanding others.

I encourage everyone to spend as much time as they can telling their stories in journals, letters, blogs, articles, books and eBooks. Doing this leaves a part of themselves to others and ultimately future generations.

H. Court Young's Summer Reading Special

The Orphan Boy, A Love Affair with MiningThe Orphan Boy, A Love Affair with Mining is a book about a man who pursued his dream of being a miner. An educated man, a graduate geologist, this man orchestrated the reopening of a mine, after World War II, that was first opened in the 1880s. He followed a dream pursued by few at that time and even fewer today.

The mine is located along the Continental Divide at 12,000 feet in one of Colorado’s richest mining districts. You will read about this man’s life as a young lad, as a college graduate, a World War II pilot and then you follow his journey to the Orphan Boy.

You will view never before published family photos, and read about his difficulties in locating and reopening the mine. As one reader notes, “there are details in this book about this mine and mining, at the time of the reopening and 60 years earlier, which make it a very interesting read.”

You will enjoy “living the experience” of the crews struggling to reopen the Orphan Boy. There are explanations of the challenges required to extract and transport the lead-silver-zinc ore from the mine to the smelter. In the end, several unexpected events involving the Orphan Boy, makes for a very interesting twist-of-fate for the man and his dream.

As a bonus, this book includes a DVD with maps, historical documents and photographs about the mine, the area and the Montezuma Mining District. This spectacular area is a four-wheelers, ATVers, hikers and bicycler’s dream, which the author is happy to share.

But, most important, the author wants to share the story of his father, Herbert Thompson Young. He was an unusual and interesting man who impacted lives by pursuing his dream and destiny in a very unique way.

The Orphan Boy, A Love Affair with Mining is ideal for the the historian, the sportsperson, geologist and the miner at heart!
